Wow! This is so cool. I just found a green crackling russula today and was so impressed by it’s appearance but had no idea how to figure out what it was. Thanks for doing this A great inspiration you are. I picked up this hobby recently and am overwhelmed with the depth and complexity of it. Im always afraid to eat coral mushrooms. Heard some can make you sick and i could never tell the difference. Crown tip is finer in texture and grows on wood, the toxic ramaria grows on the ground and is tougher, almost kinda woody Lactarius indigo aka “Indigo Milk Cap”. Ecology: Mycorrhizal with oaks and with pines; growing alone, scattered, or gregariously; Mushroom Foraging Fungi Mycology T-Shirt summer and fall; fairly widely distributed in North America from the northeast to the southwestern United States, Texas, and Mexico – but apparently absent in the Pacific Northwest, on the West Coast, and in the northern Rocky Mountains.

This is more along the lines of what I think it looks. Possibly some young Hericium. Pretty sure lion’s mane grows in NC. I can’t really tell if the picture was taken from above, pointed at the ground, or from the side, pointed at a small nook in a tree that they are growing out of. I love mushrooms, and picking wild ones sounds awesome, but alas I have very poor spatial reasoning skills and I definitely do not trust myself to accurately find the right stuff haha. I know there are edible and inedible ones… I’ve seen it all the time as I also live in piedmont NC just got a ton of chanterelles yesterday.
