Yarn prices differ. I always bought Brown Sheep when I lived in the US and they weren’t that expensive (plus the company was pushing to change the way yarn was dyed to make it more water efficient and less harmful to the environment). MadTosh has always been crazy expensive though to me (Most Likely To Shop On December 24th Funny Family Christmas Shirt which is silly because I knit with ethreal weight wool, and that’s usually about USD$20 for a 1800yard skein), and I’ve never been fond of the ‘indie colorways!’ they had because it meant one skein projects or dealing with making sure there weren’t issues.

That skien of sock yarn will take me a fairly long time to knit up. Still pricey considering I can name a lot of places to bring to cost down to 15. A pair of socks, a small shawl, a light scarf, or a hat. A sweater would take about 4 skeins of sock yarn. I’ve seen people spend $100-200USD to make a sweater out of fancy sock yarn. I rely heavily on sales to afford yarn for big projects.
