Hellhouse LLC. it shouldnt even be scary but that movie had me jumping more then any other movie I’ve ever watched in my entire life, it was a wild ride. Make sure you’re in the right atmosphere: ideally alone, at night, in the dark, and watching on a TV. In my opinion the correct circumstances are almost more important than the movie. For pure scary, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is amazing. Feels like it could be an indie gem made today. Perhaps not as effective for a modern audience but the original Alien, Halloween, and Blair Witch can all be absolutely terrifying if you haven’t seen em and give them a fair chance. Eh. Hereditary is a strong mix of both but only has a couple truly scary scenes. I’d say most of the good horror I’ve seen is more creepy and suspenseful than holy shit scary. But the conjuring 1 and 2 were pretty scary. Gonna chime in here to say I didn’t think Hereditary was very scary. Definitely not popcorn-flying levels of scary.
