you’d be surprised how much tanks actually slide around, increasing the area of ground contact does not increase the total amount of friction with the ground. the wider tires increase friction because the tire goes from being a “rigid” circle which doesnt have friction, to an imperfect circle which actually can have friction. This isnt the same for tank treads. EDIT: Made In 1956 65Th Birthday Quarantine Gift 65 Years Old shirt you should look up some video on tanks sliding, it’s actually quite frequent, and when my brother went through tanker training he was taught to avoid sliding, and avoid sharp turns since you will slide on most terrain. On soft terrain the friction of tank treads is unmatched, but on firm ground, or loose ground, it’s not much better than a car of equal mass. This is because it approaches the theoretical model of friction as the ground increases in firmness.

When you get 70,000 kg moving, it’s very hard to stop it from moving. The result of a sharp turn is that the tank will drift, throw its track, or it will flip. The latter two are very bad so the tanks are designed to drift rather than break themselves. I rode one and had a seat on the second deck, front row. It was from Pittsburgh to Philly and I was from California so the scenery was a jungle for me. I’d never seen such dense greenery. My pie in the sky idea is to fill most of the luggage space with batteries (Tesla, Nissan, whatever) and turn it into a fairly aggressive hybrid. Stuff a diesel in it for longer trips, but try to have it rely on EV power for in town stuff.

Then, you’ve got a goddamn acre of roof to festoon with solar panels. Already have AC systems from being a Greyhound, or at least easy to install. And finally, the windows! Soooooooo many windows, and that higher bit in the back just takes the cake. Can’t get enough of it. Greyhounds don’t necessarily have a/c especially older ones, I have an 84 MCI crusader II and it doesn’t have a/c. Wouldn’t be hard to install though, just gut the interior and run ducting. It would be easy to put a roof unit in one of the roof top emergency exits, that’s the plan with mine. I believe, of the two in this picture, the one in full view doesn’t have A/C and the one you can only see the top brow of does.
