Same in Boston. Ran a highway through Chinatown’s library and community center like 80 years ago. We’re only just now passing the legislation allowing for replacements to be built. Don’t forget that desegregation only happened in Boston like 30 years ago, and it immediately led to white people fleeing the city. Boston was 80% white in 1970, and is now 45% white, and the public schools are only 13% white. Boston racism is fucking weird. They’ll vote for greater rights for minorities, but on the South Shore girls will get openly Black Wall Street Tulsa African American Vintage shirt mocked by their families for dating a black person. Compare that to the South where interracial marriages are much much higher, but they constantly push for gerrymandering and legislation that hurts minorities.

There’s a book about the busing program to desegregate Boston schools in the 70s (and the riots that ensued) called Common Ground and the line I remember from it is “In the south, they don’t care how close you get as long as you don’t get too high. In the north they don’t care how high you get as long as you don’t get too close.” Which I think describes that phenomenon pretty well. I’ve heard it more succinctly as “In the South, you can have a black neighbor but not a black boss. In the North, Black Wall Street Tulsa African American Vintage shirt you can have a black boss but not a black neighbor.” At the end of the day, racism is bad because it prevents minorities from achieving wealth and power, as long as I (as a minority) am not prevented from getting those things provided I work hard enough (and potentially become a boss like the black boss mentioned in the quote), why would I care that white people don’t want to live next to me?

Boston racism is weird. I grew up in the area and couldn’t believe the stories of stuff I had simply never seen, things that seemed unlikely given the regions general liberalism. Now I am older and aware that my black and Polish friends basically grew up in a different place than I did. DC is like this, 40% white and like 13% of the public schools are white. And this is actually way up from what it used to be. Granted, DC public schools historically have not been great. Is it 40% white kids though…b/c otherwise the numbers could be skewed by the number Black Wall Street Tulsa African American Vintage shirt of white professionals from outside the ciry eorking for the govt and other organizations that are drawn to the city but move to the burbs once they have a family And why is it that we see far more white women dating black men than white men dating black women
