Obviously it’s too much of a liability, but my colleagues and I wonder if it would be beneficial to offer actual in-person tours to our COVID units. Something about seeing it with your own eyes is way more powerful than hearing about it or reading a headline. But this will never happen. I’ve said the same thing. I wish people could see, in person or through a documentary or something, the entire process from testing, ICU, family’s perspectives, through to (hopefully) rehab/recovery. Better to wear a mask than ventilator better to stay at home than in and ICU shirt We do rapid testing and it’s so hectic and exhausting. Patients get mad because they have to wait three hours. There are already 60 people lined up at the door when we open. We’re severely understaffed. I don’t want sympathy or to be called a hero, I just want people to understand.

You’re right though, it won’t happen. HIPAA, admins, etc would for sure frown upon it. I don’t think it would do any good. I had an interaction with another redditor today and yesterday who first claimed that she lived in a rural area where there were low cases; therefore, she and her husband refused to mask because chances were low of getting it. In fact, she said, they had been going maskless for months and “nothing [had] happened.” It later came out that she, her husband,Better to wear a mask than ventilator better to stay at home than in and ICU shirt and some friends had already had it, but didn’t know where they got it from, and she’s still short of breath two weeks later, but it was no big deal.

The contradictions she had to navigate, and somehow without any evidence of cognitive dissonance, was astounding. I don’t think a tour would have changed her mind; she would just explain that in HER area , cases are low. No one SHE knows has had it. THOSE people must just have had a pre existing condition, etc. And, again, the people needing to see that the most, won’t be the ones to take advantage of it. Better to wear a mask than ventilator better to stay at home than in and ICU shirt It’s incredibly frustrating. The anti-intellectualism in this country is so powerful and seductive there’s many people that just choose to stick their heads in the sand and stay ignorant. Unfortunately the way they are kept unconscious with medications leads to intense delirium. Survivors report scary intensely real dreams that they often remember after wards. ICU Survivor PTSD is a real thing.
